The Care System in Bogotá addresses the disproportionate burden of unpaid care work on women by recognizing, reducing, and redistributing care tasks. This project aims to achieve gender equality and integrates care into urban planning, aiming for social and environmental justice. The system’s goals are to recognize the value of care work, redistribute it fairly among societal actors, and reduce women’s time spent on unpaid care to enhance their autonomy.
The Care System supports caregivers, those in need of care, and promotes cultural change through education, professional care services, and workshops on new masculinities. Over three years, it has created significant impact with Care Blocks, fixed and mobile, and Home Assistance units, providing nearly 4 million care services to over 687,000 people, and establishing a governance mechanism for sustainability.
