Places for London: Development & Partnership for Growth

UK |
London

Places for London aims to tackle the city’s affordability crisis and sustainability needs in housing, business space, and workplaces by leveraging surplus land. For that purpose, it is proposing an innovative approach that involves redeveloping public land like car parks and railway yards into mixed-use, mixed-income, and sustainable developments, offering affordable, low-carbon homes and workspaces well-connected by public transport. This initiative helps avoid taxpayer-funded property investments and reinvests real estate profits into the transport network.

Places for London plans to develop 20,000 homes by 2031, targeting 50% affordable housing, and partnering with London Boroughs and other public landowners. It supports over 1,500 businesses, mostly SMEs, boosting local economies and job creation. In short, it is an initiative that promotes sustainable growth, inclusive urban development, and gender-inclusive design.
