The Bay Urban Visioning Awards recognize international examples that have the potential to encourage and inspire all those concerned with cities. They will be chosen based on their originality and significance in creating longer-term impacts for their city-regions. Apart from the winners in our 5 categories the top 100 projects will be promoted as part of our repository of great projects. Applications for the inaugural Bay Awards are open until 10 June 2024.  The three finalists of each award category will be invited to present their projects during the Bay Awards Summit on 9 October 2024. The winners will be announced that same evening at The Bay Awards Gala. Save the date!

Award categories

The Bay Awards will honor urban pioneers in the following five categories:

Horizon Shaper Award

This award is offered to initiatives from around the world that have conceptualized and cultivated a long-term, strategic vision of their urban future that has deftly orchestrated intricate initiatives and been manifested in real transformations. 

Who: cities, metropolitan areas, regions, institutions, entities or companies. 

Achievement: Long-term vision of urban projects or initiatives. 

Partner: BBK Foundation.

Partners in Progress Award

The aim of this category is to find examples and projects from around the world that have developed public-private collaboration initiatives that result in a substantial improvement in the competitiveness and well-being of their citizens. 

Who: cities, metropolitan areas, regions, institutions, entities or companies. 

Achievement: Public-private collaboration schemes and projects in urban spaces. 

Partner: Bilbao Port Authority and Petronor.

SDG Champions Award

This award recognizes places and projects from around the world that have tangibly implemented the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda in ways that are close to citizens and involve them.

Who: cities, metropolitan areas, regions, institutions, entities or companies.

Achievement: Urban projects with an impact in achieving the SDGs and Local Agenda 2030.

Partner: Basque Government

 

Prosperity Catalyst Award

Places and projects from around the world that have succeeded in generating prosperity in their communities, as well as fostering wealth redistribution and social and territorial cohesion.

Who: cities, metropolitan areas, regions, institutions, entities or companies.

Achievement: Strategies, projects, or initiatives capable of boosting competitiveness and sustainable and inclusive economic prosperity in a territory, city, metropolitan area or region.

Partner: Regional Government of Biscay.

The Bay Urban Pioneers Award

Each year this overarching award represents the best global urban strategies.

These are places from around the world that offer proven models of success and that have become global benchmarks.

Who: cities, metropolitan areas, regions and institutions.

Achievement: Models of urban strategic transformation.

Partner: Bilbao City Council.

 

Who is eligible to apply?

Cities, metropolises, regions, institutions, entities or companies are eligible to submit projects or initiatives.

With “entities and institutions” we are referring to associations, foundations, partnerships, training entities, universities, research centres, public agencies, technology centres, NGOs, etc.

The Bay Urban Pioneers Award is the only award exclusively for cities, metropolitan areas and regions.
